our History

Saints Home United Methodist Church finds its roots in the Methodist Episcopal Church (MEC), which later became the United Methodist Church in 1968 through the union of three streams of tradition: Methodism, The United Brethren Church in Christ, and The Evangelical Association. Saints Home was established in the late 1800s by African-Americans deeply committed to peace, love, and unity. Saints Home was rebuilt in 1949 from a wooden structure to bricks and continues to receive renovations. We are one of the outstanding historic African-American churches in Winston-Salem. We are inspired and motivated by the word of God, especially the words of the Psalmist, “Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity” (Psalm 133:1). Also, the admonition of Jesus, “By this everyone will know you are My disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:35). On May 15, 2023, the Mayor of Winston-Salem, Allen Joines, chose Saints Home to receive and erected an Historical Marker on its ground for its outstanding role in the Boston-Thurmond Community. Saints Home has always been blessed with outstanding and dynamic pastors. In 2021, the appointment of a new pastor, Rev. Fomba Karva, ushered in a wave of inspiration, innovations, vigor, and vitality, leading the church into a season of fruitful ministry
